Transportation Funding to Windham County CT Student Field Trips
In the fall of 2018, The Scripps Family Fund for Education and the Arts and the Newell D. Hale Foundation launched Wheels to Learning to provide transportation funding for field trips for all K-12 Windham County, Connecticut public schools traveling to designated non-profit cultural institutions in the arts, sciences and humanities.
About Wheels to Learning
Every child deserves access to high quality educational opportunities beyond their classroom was. These enriching experiences inspire curiosity, discovery, and love of learning. Wheels to Learning supports these opportunities for Windham County students, and the simple application process makes it easy for schools to access this transportation funding.
Since its inception, the Wheels to Learning program has provided over $189,593 of transportation grants benefiting approximately 19,826 students. These grants were provided to 37 schools for 360 field trips to 19 different educational venues.
Modeled after Wheels to Learning in Windham County, Wheels to Learning Vermont was launched by the Vermont Standard in the 2025-26 school year.
